Dissolving Sugar

How does water temperature affect the time sugar takes to dissolve?

The lesson

What students do

A drink company wants a mixing guide. Compare dissolving time while keeping the sugar, water, cup, and stirring method the same.

  1. Measure the same volume of water into each cup.
  2. Check the water temperature.
  3. Add the same amount of sugar and stir at the same speed.
  4. Time until no sugar crystals are visible and repeat three times.
